Äl Jawala - Oriental Brass & Big Beats
Äl Jawala
With the heat of their Gypsy-Saxophone-Bigbeat, the former street musicians are setting clubs and festivals all over Europe
on fire. Äl Jawala’s unmistakable Mash-Up sounds radically defy all boundaries of genre and purity. Loud, raw, energetic, and
yet still full of lyric, they always play into the hearts of their audiences.
While filling the dance floors, Äl Jawala continues to gain in musical depth and diversity. The virtuosic lines of the two
saxophones lay the groundwork for the Al Jawala sounds. They are what drive both the audience and musician forward. East
European origins full of folklore are complimented not only by beats and electronic bass but also by Dub and Reggae
elements to create a very unique and original mixture, a danceable culture shock that leaves no one unmoved!
Not only are they moving forward and breaking ground musically. The band is also currently working on a new series called
„Black Forest Voodoo“. Instead of producing the usual single Album, they intend to publicize their creative output every two
months in the form of E.P’s and singles that will surely guarantee for fresh winds in the record shelves for at least a year.
Black Forest Voodoo is a reverence and celebration of origin as well as an ode to the hardships and glory of a selfdetermined
life. „Black Forest“ stands for home, roots, the familiar and trusted, „Voodoo“ for enchantment, magic, the
unknown and the daring. In combination, a kraft is formed which incites one to go new ways without losing sight of one’s
origins.
Black Forest Voodoo can also be found in the history of Äl Jawala:
It all began in the year 2000 with street music, many new ideas and self-burned CDs which they sold on the street. Club and
Festival shows followed. They toured in Germany, France and Switzerland and created their own concert and party series,
Balkan Big Beat – Nights, which started in Freiburg. Soon they were sharing the stage with Emir Kusturica, Shantel and other
big acts in the Balkan-Beats movement. Consistent and true to their calling, they went their own way off the beaten path of
the mainstream. This led them through all of Europe, and to Jordan, Canada and China as well.
