Geschichte
Altra was founded out of the need for a shoe that allowed runners to run the way they were born to. Our founders, runners like you, saw fellow runners enter their running store complaining of pain, injury and an wanting an answer to their problem.

Video analysis and podiatrist research showed that the elevated heel’s in traditional shoes were encouraging improper technique, increasing impact on the body and squeezing the toes together with narrow toe boxes.

The solution was simple—to provide a shoe that was level from heel to forefoot, and had a wide toe box that allowed your toes to spread out naturally.

Altra began with three individuals coming together in a basement, using toaster ovens to modify runner’s traditional running shoes and improve their performance. Today, Altra has become one of the Top 10 brands at running specialty.

Altra features a wide variety of running footwear from foot-strengthening road training shoes to protective mountain trail running shoes. Every inch of Altra footwear is vigorously analyzed to ensure they meet the Altra standard of improving running technique, natural foot function, reducing impact and reducing chance of injury.

Step into a shoe that feels right and allows you to run the way you were born to. A shoe shouldn’t limit you or cause problems—it should propel you to new heights and help solve problems. Altra began with this vision and continues to strive to motivate people to get out and run and realize that there are Zero Limits to what they can accomplish.
