Geschichte
The network of pituitary diseases and adrenalopathy is a nonprofit association of affected persons, relatives and doctors.
The network was founded in 1994 by patients and endocrinologists (specialists in hormonal disorders and metabolic diseases) in Erlangen.
The network is the first organization in partnership of patients and doctors for pituitary diseases and adrenalopathy in Germany.
lt often happens that diseases of the pituitary gland or adrenal gland are diagnosed and treated too late because of the initially uncharacteristic symptoms and the slow progress of the disease. In many cases a lifelong hormone therapy is required and affected persons often feel left alone with special questions. The network deals with the following diseases: Cushing's syndrome. prolactinoma, acromegaly, hormone-inactive pituitary gland adenoma, diabetes insipidus, Addison's disease as well as panhypopituitarism with lack of cortisol, thyroid hormones and growth hormones.
What is new are groups for Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1 and endocrine tumors (network NET).
Apart from the promotion of the communication between affected persons, the network has set itself the following goals:
Help for self-help with affected persons by means of promoting contact with other patients and doctors
Preparation and distribution of information material for affected persons, their relatives, public institutions and therapists
Support of the research in the field of pituitary diseases and adrenalopathy
Promotion of seminars and further education measures for affected persons and doctors
In order to realize our goals we finance our activities from annual contributions of members and voluntary donations.
