Proklima- a programme of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH – was founded in 1996 and worked initially on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ) as the largest bilateral implementing agency under the Montreal Protocol and supported partner countries in the phase-out of ozone-depleting substances (ODS). From 2008 onward, Proklima also started to implement projects for the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) under its International Climate Protection Initiative (IKI) and has supported partner countries in meeting their Kyoto Protocol and Paris Agreement obligations ever since. The objective of all Proklima projects is the phase-out of ODS and other refrigerants with high global warming potential in the refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) sector.
