Geschichte

GUATAVITA - Panela is a delicious unrefined whole cane sugar, 100% organic from Colombia with a fine caramel aroma. It is a tasty and healthy substitute for industrial refined sugar and suits perfectly to sweeten your coffee, tea, smoothie, yogurt, lemonade, cocktails, muesli, porridge and for backing and cooking too.

Until recently, Panela has been a well-kept secret of Colombian heritage with a lot of significance and tradition for its people. It is a taste of home and childhood for many Colombians and comes now to your home to sweeten your life.

DE CAÑA - Panela is made of 100% organic cultivated sugarcane, growing next to his famous and award-winning neighbour Colombian coffee. Panela is produced in very few steps, which leaves vitamins and minerals of the sugarcane plant in the final product. Sugarcane is harvested by hand and brought to a trapiche, the traditional mill, where it is shredded to extract its sweet and nutritious juice. The juice is clarified and carefully boiled down to syrup. Finally the syrup is stirred cold, until it gets its fine powdery consistency. Listo!

Panela contains thiamine, vitamin B6, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc. In Colombia Panela is also used as a cure for cold and infections, by dissolving it in warm water with lemon or just in hot milk. The presence of vitamins and minerals makes it easier for the body to process the sugar.
