The Hamburg Hurricanes is an English speaking, multi-national/cultural team of players from all across the world.
On 22nd October 2011 the following was posted on the Toytown Germany Hamburg page,
“I have seen lots of posts on here for people interested in playing football and wondered if anyone would be prepared to help start a new 11 aside team for next season? This would be a great way to play regular football while bringing together different cultures currently living in Hamburg. I’m certain there are enough of us "foreigners" in Hamburg who want to play football, it would be great to see a team of all nationalities enjoying football while making friends at the same time.”
Almost four years on and the Hamburg Hurricanes are an established and well organised football team competing in the Hamburg Freizeitliga for a third consecutive season.
The club consists of players from all across the world. The philosophy of the club is simple one, a commitment to playing attractive football underpinned by fairness, support for each other, respect for opponents and upholding the spirit of the beautiful game. In addition to activities on the pitch the club is a huge benefit to its members socially as our network extends far beyond just the players and this network has helped newcomers to Hamburg settle in, make friends, find apartments and even jobs.
From the humble beginnings of training in the Hamburg Stadtpark, the Hurricanes now have a professional management team, a dedicated manager and club captain, an assigned home pitch, 1st class training facilities (4th generation astro-turf pitch at the International School Hamburg) a club referee and doctor.
The Team is managed by Guillaume Hounsome who as a former youth player with French club Auxerre is as passionate about football and he is the Hurricanes! In his first seasons as manager, Guillaume has built a more professional approach to every element of the team, including fitness, training sessions and vastly improved match tactics – all of which has paid real dividends on and off the pitch. As a result the Hurricanes finished second in division 4 last season earning promotion to division 3 for the 2015/16 campaign.
The Hurricanes is run by a democratic management board with collective responsibility for finance, administration, social events and player registration and recruitment. The board is determined to build on the current achievements in a structured manner and is already planning the next step in the clubs development.
The Hurricanes has a healthy membership of 40+ registered players with additional players joining the training sessions. Members are kept informed of developments through the Club’s social media channels and a new interactive website.
