The 5th LUMIX Festival for Young Photojournalism will take place from 15-19 June 2016.


The LUMIX Festival for Young Photojournalism in Hanover testifies the power which photojournalism has in our image-oriented world, adding fundamentally to our perception of mankind in all its facets. It contributes to the education and sensitization, touches people emotionally and lets them share.The study course photojournalism and documentary photography of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts organizes the LUMIX Festival in cooperation with the German photojournalist association FREELENS.

In 2016 numerous reportages and picture essays will be presented in the futuristic pavilions of the Expo area. The centre of the festival will be the Design Center, headquarter of the Hanoverian photojournalism students. Like all exhibition pavilions it is situated on the area of the former Expo 2000. About 2,000 students and professional photo editors from all over the world had submitted their work for the festival in 2014. 60 of them are choosen for an exhibition each time. The exhibitions are integrated into an attractive program with portfolio-reviews, lectures, panel-discussions and a technique showroom.

The highlight of each festival day are the evening lectures of internationally known photographers. The end of the festival on Saturday will be the festival party as well as the granting of the FREELENS Award, the Lammerhuber Photography Award, the Lumix Multimedia Award and the HAZ Audience Award. The festival shall be a platform for discussions, a picture show and a talent forum – for professional picture editors, an interested expert audience and people who love photographs – at once.
