Geschichte

Neitersen is a municipality in the district of Altenkirchen, in Rhineland-Palatinate, in western Germany.GeographyNeitersen is 4 miles southwest of Altenkirchen on the river Wied. The village divides in the districts Neiterschen, Niederölfen, Kahlhardt, Fladersbach and Neitersen. Neitersen is 700 feet above sealevel.HistoryIn a contract from March 1, 1262 between Gräfin Mechthild, the widow of Earl Heinrich III. von Sayn, and the archbishop from Cologne, are three attendants from Nithirshusen listed who are serving for their whole lifetime in the house of Gräfin Mechthild. The original Version of this contract is stored in Landeshauptarchiv Koblenz. This is the first known historical document in which Neitersen is mentioned.In the 18th century, ownership of the local forest changed from the Earl Graf von Sayn-Hachenburg, to the local residents in Neitersen.1848 the famous mayor from Weyerbusch Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen founded the first school in Neitersen. The building still exists.In 1882 the railroad construction Siershahn-Altenkirchen started. On May, 30th 1884 it started its public transportation service and Neitersen got a Station and a Postoffice with its first public telephone at the same day.There is a report in German available how the name Neitersen got established.
