Retzstadt is a community in the Main-Spessart district in the Regierungsbezirk of Lower Franconia (Unterfranken) in Bavaria, Germany and a member of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft (Administrative Community) of Zellingen.GeographyLocationRetzstadt lies in the Main-Spessart district in a side-valley of the Main, on the river Retz. The community has only the Gemarkung (traditional rural cadastral area) of Retzstadt.HistoryReccisstadt had its first documentary mention in the mid 8th century. Retzstadt was, as part of the Princely Electorate (Hochstift) of Würzburg (Cathedral chapter) in Bavaria’s favour secularized and passed in the Peace of Pressburg in 1805 to Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg, with which it passed in 1814 to Bavaria.PoliticsMayorsThe current mayor is Karl Gerhard .
