The Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company is based in equal measure in the cities of Dresden and Frankfurt am Main. Internationally acclaimed choreographer Jacopo Godani serves as artistic director of the company.

Geschichte

Auf der Grundlage eines bis zum Jahr 2018 abgeschlossenen Kooperationsvertrages residiert die Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company zu gleichen Teilen in Dresden und Frankfurt am Main. Künstlerischer Leiter des Ensembles ist der international renommierte Choreograf Jacopo Godani.
Das Repertoire der Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company wird maßgeblich von den Werken Jacopo Godanis geprägt. In Abstimmung mit William Forsythe wird die Company einmal pro Jahr auch eines seiner Repertoirewerke aufführen.

Kooperationspartner sind die Länder Sachsen und Hessen, die Städte Dresden und Frankfurt am Main sowie Sponsoren und private Förderer. Rechtsträger der Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company ist die in 2004 gegründete innovative länderübergreifende Public Private Partnership The Forsythe Company GmbH.

Gefördert durch die Landeshauptstadt Dresden und den Freistaat Sachsen sowie die Stadt Frankfurt am Main und das Land Hessen. Sie ist Company-in-Residence in HELLERAU – Europäisches Zentrum der Künste in Dresden und im Bockenheimer Depot in Frankfurt am Main.

In his first work as Artistic Director of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, Jacopo Godani will present three elemental creations whose choreography – abstract and pure aesthetically – will serve as the main means of artistic expression.

With a physical intensity rich in action and in exactitude, virtually mathematical in its precision, Godani will introduce the quintessence of the company’s future identity. By forgoing the superficial and emphasizing a masterful knowledge of technique, the initial program will set the standard for all that follows.

His choreographies, methodically and analytically developed during intensive rehearsals, leave no room for the improvised or unforeseen. His artistic creations result from clearly structured ideas which find expression as a technically precise realization of the physical and conceptual possibilities. Fully exploiting the program’s choreographic intensity, Godani will take a new approach to dancing en pointe and the experimentation that that entails.

His objective is to introduce a categorical lucidity to choreographic composition. This necessarily leads to multiple questions: How do we use our intellect to create information while reproducing a given choreography? How do the extremely specialized patterns of movement respond as this information is transferred? What are the most effective strategies for composing a work within this framework? How does the reduction during a limited timeframe affect the choreographic information? How is it possible to communicate all of this information to the viewer?

In this initial program, the audience will experience choreography as a signature event in the truest sense of that word. Jacopo Godani will present choreography as a nexus of values and relationships in which dancers are given the freedom to develop their own intellectual and artistic potential.

Called upon – keenly and intentionally – as social beings during this process, the dancers will have a hyper-real presence within the moment of artistic communication. And all of this on a single stage – synonym for unending possibilities.
