I never write reviews but for my most recent experience, I would be doing myself a disservice if I didn't. Additionally, if it was possible to give a -5 star review, I would have justifiably done so.

This club has the worst outside staff in the city of Bonn. On the 7th of January around 0130, I was heading to Untergrund, a place I have been before. When I arrived, an older gentleman (age between late 40s-early 50s) looked at me and after a few seconds said no. In my head I then wondered why he said no hastily because what I was wearing was a Ralph Lauren Polo Dress Shirt, fitted jeans, chelsea boots, and a G-Star peacoat. I only mention the brands to paint a picture of me looking more than presentable; far from being "messy".

He then uttered, you have to be a student in order to get in. I responded by saying ok and to his surprise I pulled out my current student ID and handed it to him. He then analyzed the ID card with his flashlight and after his revision, proceeded to tell me no again. So now I was inclined to ask him and in a calm tone, "excuse me, but I want to understand why you said no?" I noticed he became irritated at me calmly wanting to know why I was being rejected. 

Another colleague of his (age between early to mid 30s) came up and said he told you know then it is a no. He then states, too many guys and you need to bring a girl with  you. So I said ok, I stood out of line approached two females that were by themselves, explained the situation and asked if they could accompany to this establishment. They agreed and we all went to the line together.

The younger staff (age between early to mid 30s) allowed the girls to enter and then looked at me and still said no. Now, at this point I am becoming frustrated. It was time for me to press for answers and understand my rejection. During this entire time I was still calm. 

I then said, "you wanted my student ID and I showed that to you, you wanted me to bring a girl with me and I brought two, now tell me why do you still say no?" A third gentleman, the actual bouncer (between the late 30s and early 40s) literally got close to my face close enough to kiss me and said you need to leave. At this point I did not want to go inside but my mission now was to get an honest answer from them. I asked the bouncer again help me understand why I was told no and his very "insightful" response was "they have a gut feeling" and that's why I am not allowed in. At this point I told him I have been here before when a different staff was working and there were no issues.

My next statement (which I did not want to use or even have that be the real reason of my rejection ) was is it because I am black? After saying this the bouncer then proceeds to push me and my hands were in my jacket to restrain myself from fighting back. After this I said I am not here to fight and from your outrage and you feeling the need to fight a man that only seeks to be answered peacefully, you then are truly rejected me solely based off the pigmentation of my skin. After making my point and confirming my suspicions of why I was rejected, I turned around and left.

It is unfortunate that a persons skin color is a deciding factor. As mentioned earlier, I am not "playing" the black card but if you are black and decide to go to this establishment just keep in mind based on who is working the front door, you may or may not get in. If you are rejected, then you too will see the clear reasons for this rejection.
